Made or Broken: Football & Survival in the Georgia Woods

Bill Lightle (Class of '75)

The book tells the story of Graves Springs Football Camp and it includes several players and pictures from the 1950s. Among others, there is a picture of the '59 state championship team. The1952 and '58 teams are pictured as well. Additionally, stories from Frank Orgel, Gordon Dixon, and Bob Fowler are included.

Bill says, "The book is part memoir, as I played at the camp in the early 1970s. However, I provide a historical perspective of the camp which opened in the1930s with names of coaches such as Paul Robertson, Harold McNabb, Sam Yarborough, Clem Rakel, and others.

Advance Praise For the Book:

  • ...Years later, the memories are still with me about Graves Springs - some good, and some not so good. Bill Lightle's memories are a true treasure of that hallowed ground called Graves Springs. - Ducky Wall, sports columnist for the Albany Herald and former sports director of WALB-TV in Albany.
